“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.”
― Ralph Waldo Emerson

A beginning.

So. Today I emerge from my shell to share with the world a story. Not the greatest story ever told… Not even much of a story really, but just a beginning: My first step towards My Journey of a 1000 Designs. I seek a mental adventure that goes beyond the scope of what we have been conditioned to think, see and believe. At the very least, I have realized only a fraction of my true potential and purpose thus far; and so my mind roams, breaking free from limitation, preconception and doctored perception as it embarks on this path…

I’m a built environment and graphic/media designer. But I do not write this as a professional, but as a human being who has a skill to give to the world to make it a better place. Each one of us has something to give – we can call it a skill, ability, talent, resource – whatever we choose to call it, the first step in giving it begins our journey of serving our true purpose. Hence the title of my blog.

My Journey of a 1000 Designs is a designer’s journey (of a thousand miles) towards effecting an impact to the world around us by changing how it looks (or how we perceive or make it), inspired by a passion for designing, and experiences from entrepreneurship, youth leadership and advocacy in the community. I conceive and create designs, but that’s not enough. Designs should become effective solutions and tools of communication that will address problems and effect significant changes in our development.

Our environment is in a greater sense, a product of design. But also, the environment around us – both natural and built – reflects a community’s socio-economic status, its worldview, culture, and values, to mention a few aspects. So it depends on whether we want to design our environment to shape how we think and grow as a people, or let our environment reflect what we let it become. Always remember how that sun emerging from the clouds after the rains gives us that nostalgic feeling of peace of hope. That could be the effect of our designing too!

So, It’s been nice meeting you. ‘Til the next post…
